Great Wolf Lodge

I am finally getting around to posting about our stay at the Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, TX on Memorial Day weekend. We left for Texas on Friday evening (see earlier posts), stayed at the Hilton hotel in Grapevine, then headed over to the Great Wolf Lodge at 1pm on Saturday. That is the earliest we could check in and be able to use the indoor waterpark.

OK, so, this place is REALLY cool. I couldn't believe how big it is inside! There is a huge kiddie area, wave pool, lazy river, and many HUGE slides (that swirl around inside the building, then go outside the building, then come back in the building before shooting you out into the pool!). Also, there is a big splash area for the kids with a big fort for the kids to climb up & down while getting wet. And, don't forget about the pool outside with more big slides! If you've never checked out the Great Wolf Lodge, go to http://www.greatwolflodge.com/ and take a look!

The first slide Bryan & I ride together is called the "cyclone". Two people ride in a double tube, you FALL down the slide and end up in this big funnel thing where you go back & forth until you FALL down through the end of it and splash into the water. It was fun, but I was a bit nauseaus and week-kneed afterwards because I went down BACKWARDS! Yeap, Bryan got to see my screaming face the whole way down. :) Since I was backwards, I couldn't see what was about to happen next... turns, twists, falling, up, down, sideways... oy!

We talked Kaleb into going down the slide they call the "toilette bowl". Imagine the bowl of a toilette and what happens to the water in it when you flush it. It swirls around and around until finally it gets sucked through the hole into neverland. Kaleb started out at the top on his tube and went down the short slide until it dropped him off into the toilette bowl. Then, he swirled around & around in circles and it "flushed" him out into the water (see the big green & white striped bowl in the very first picture). His face when he got off of that was priceless! He said it was fun but he was too scared to ride it again. In fact, after that he was too scared to do any of the big slides... scaredy-cat! ;-)

We stayed in the waterpark until about 6pm when we were all getting tired & hungry. So, we got cleaned up & went to dinner in the hotel restaurant. The next day, we got packed up & checked out of the room but we were able to stay in the waterpark the rest of the day. We played for several more hours until we were ready to head back to the Hilton where we stayed Sunday night.

The waterpark is not open to the general public... only guests at the lodge. Staying 1 night at the lodge allowed us to have almost 2 days of the waterpark. I am glad that we didn't stay longer than one night because we were exhausted!
